Pressemitteilung

Die Ausstellung zeigt Werke der Künstlerin, in denen es um Untersuchungen materieller Phänomene, plastischer Gesten und Zustände geht.

Neben 3D-bearbeiteten Skulpturen aus schwarzem Marmor kommen auch Beton und Stein, Konglomerat und Chrom ins Spiel. Das plastische Potential diversen Materials, das z.T. aus urbanen Kontexten abgeleitet ist, wird außerdem in Zeichnungen und textuellen Arbeiten untersucht, übersetzt und verdichtet.

Ein spezifisches Terrain ist immer physisch, physikalisch, aber auch mental und imaginär.

Es geht um Form und Nicht-Form, um Substanz und Oberfläche, um energetische Spur.
Die Auseinandersetzung mit Materialität, Abstraktion und Transformation lotet hier eine ‚Geologie der Gegenwart’ aus, wobei auch Grenzbereiche und Nahtstellen des Materials aufgezeigt werden.

Die in der Ausstellung korrespondieren Arbeiten werden ergänzt durch die Publikation AIRE (Fantôme Verlag), in der die Künstlerin fotografische Aufnahmen zu Materialität und Mineralität von urbanem, kulturellem und naturhaftem Raum konzentriert.
Die konzeptionelle Übersetzung in verschiedene Medien und Formate eröffnet ein Feld präziser Bezüge der Arbeiten untereinander.


Claude Horstmann (*in MInden) lebt und arbeitet in Stuttgart und Marseille. Sie studierte Kunstwissenschaften an der Universität Osnabrück (MA) und Freie Kunst an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart. Ihrer Arbeit an (Wand-) Zeichnungen, Skulpturen und Texten, Performances und fotografischen Bildern liegt verschiedenes Material zugrunde, das sich oft aus urbanen Kontexten ableitet. Insbesondere der markierte Raum, die materielle Verfasstheit und die gezeichnete Spur manifestieren sich in verschiedenen Medien. Auch in performativen Vorträgen setzt sich die Künstlerin mit diesem erweiterten Feld auseinander.

Sie hatte verschiedene Stipendien und Arbeitsaufenthalte im In- und Ausland, u.a. durch die Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn, das Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg, Ville de Marseille und Ville de Strasbourg. Einzelausstellungen u.a. Laura Mars Gallery, Berlin, Goethe-Institut Lyon, cipm Centre international de poésie Marseille sowie Gruppenausstellungen u.a. in Stuttgart, Herford, Paris und Marseille.

The exhibition shows artist's works that examine material phenomena, plastic gestures, and states.
In addition to 3D-edited sculptures made of black marble, concrete and stone, conglomerate and chrome also come into play. The plastic potential of various materials, some of which are derived from urban contexts, is also analysed, translated and condensed into drawings and textual works.

Specific terrain is always physical, scientific-physical, but also mental and imaginary.

It is about form and non-form, about surface and energetic trace. The engagement with materiality, abstraction, and transformation probes a 'geology of the present'.

In the exhibition, sculpture and drawing, as well as textual works, correspond with each other and are complemented by the publication AIRE, in which the artist focuses on photographic images related to the materiality and minerality of urban, cultural, and natur-like space. Translated into new conceptions, Claude Horstmann's works touch the border areas of contemporary sculpture and drawing.


Claude Horstmann (* in Minden, Germany) lives and works in Stuttgart and Marseille.
She studied art history at the University of Osnabrueck (M.A.) and Fine arts at the Stuttgart State Academy of Arts. Her work on drawing and wall-drawing, sculpture and text, performance and photographic image is based on diverse material, particularly inspired by urban contexts.
Especially the ‚marked’ space, the trace and the drawn manifest in various media.
The artist also deals with this expanded field in performative lectures and workshops.

Claude Horstmann has been awarded various grants and working residencies in Germany and abroad, including by the Kunstfonds Bonn, the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg, Ville de Marseille and Ville de Strasbourg. Her last solo-exhibitions have taken place at Laura Mars Gallery, Berlin, Goethe-Institut Lyon, cipM Centre international de poésie Marseille.
She participated among others in group shows in Stuttgart, Berlin, Paris and Marseille.
